130,000 LINE Pay Account Got Leaked

About 130,000 LINE Pay app accounts were leaked. This data leak case reportedly happened to a number of Line users in Japan and Taiwan.

LINE said data from users of a payment service called Line Pay had been exposed on the internet for more than two months until the end of November.

Reporting from The Register, information covering more than 51,000 Japanese users and nearly 82,000 Taiwanese and Thai users accessed 11 times over ten weeks is available online.

LINE Pay said on Monday that information accidentally uploaded by its group company, which was viewable between September 12 and November 24, includes payment amounts, dates and times during promotional campaigns held from December 2020 to April 2021, but does not include data such as the user's name, address or credit card number.

The company said it had confirmed 11 examples of externally accessed information and warned users that they could receive suspicious messages from potential fraudsters, as quoted by Japan Today.

LINE's promise that it will improve may therefore need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
